The better school food

7 Apr

On Tuesday Satu and I went to school to do some school work and after sitting in the school cafe talking about our weekend for an hour we decided to go to eat at the university ;) Having a lot of time, being hungry and just having received student benefits we decided to go for the more expensive option at TaY Juvennes. With a valid (Finnish) student card you can get a burger or wok for just 4,70€ including salad and soda! Nice! :) I went for the cheese burger and fries which was really good and so definitely worth the price! Satu went for the lime-pepper salmon and shrimp wok which turned out to be more wok than salmon. To be honest the strip of salmon was miserable :( But very delicious nonetheless! All the ingredients tasted really fresh which isn’t always the case in fast food joints. If you have a student card and have the opportunity to try out Juvennes Fusion Kitchen I highly recommend it, especially the burgers :D

pre-easter

29 Mar

It was my turn to cook for the other girls this time. I didn’t really have any good ideas for Monday’s lunch so I decided to get inspired by Easter. I’m not sure when Easter exactly is this year, but since the supermarkets have been selling Easter eggs for some time now, I assumed it has to be pretty soon..

This is soon becoming my classic Easter dish. Eggs in nest. I’ve done it a couple of times now, but always with a different filling. This time it was with shrimp, cream cheese, lemon juice, pepper, dill and a hint of tabasco.

For main course was home-made coleslaw, grilled tomatos and lamb and buffalo sausages. I guess the lamb in the sausage made this eastery in my mind..

And the dessert was a bit of a struggle.. I was meaning to do pasha, but I didn’t have a mold for it. So I tried using gelatine to keep it together, and that didn’t really work because I didn’t put enough of it. So then it became pasha semifreddo. The texture wasn’t too good, but it tasted alright… It had cream, quark, peaches, lemon peel, raisins and almond crush in it. Ok for a first try without a recipe. Maybe I’ll try it again and then share the recipe if it’s any better!

The FIRST BIG ONE

17 Mar

17th May, afternoon at Armonkallio, Tampere, Finland.

Here we are, together at Satu’s place. We have just eaten. Actually, nowadays we don’t really do anything else but eat, drink and talk about food and what we are going to eat next. Food, food, food. The three things we love.

Today we got together to study and do some assignments for school. But somehow food got involved, wonder why.. Satu had prepared us a fairly simple, but delicious lunch! It started with an odd combination of vegetables, dip and coffee. Easy, good and cheap for us students. But I must say, coffee and celery is not a match made in heaven!

For the main course Satu cooked us some tomato soup with goat cheese and crispy bacon. It was delicious! Spicy, creamy, and bacony..

We all have an addiction to coffee, so we had large cups of coffee and some turkish yogurt and cloudberry jam for dessert. And tried to get some school work done. But ended up writing this blog.

Anyway, this is very special day for two reasons: first, today we are going to start writing our AWESOME blog. And second, today is the St. Patricks Day. That means, of course, that we are going to an Irish pub to enjoy some cold beers and ciders.
